(Re)Experimenting with reverse-lens close-ups...

Since some of my Flickr friends have been playing, and exhibiting their substantial prowess, with reverse-lens close ups, I thought I would revisit the technique.

I found my adapter (the BR-2A, for Nikon people), mounted the 50mm f/1.2 AIS (because it was on the desk), and proceeded out into the drizzly morning. Since it was an initial foray, I dispensed with the support system, which was probably a good choice.

Wobble-focus technique was the play of the day; not enough focus leeway to make a difference, especially at f/1.2. And I found myself leaning over obstacles, like for the image at the top of this post.

Still, it was interesting. And since I always have a 50mm with me, I'll just throw the adapter in the bag. It's just a ring, so not much more bulk.

If you are looking for extreme close-ups, you may be better served with extension tubes, close-up adapters, bellows, or reversing a lens onto another. But this method is quick, easy, and inexpensive; you can even dispense with the adapter and handhold it.

I shall have to look into this further. ;)

I hear that these are not as common in some places as Hawaii. Unless the weather is devoid of moisture, I fail to understand how this could be.

All it takes is sun on one side, rain on the other, and you in the center... Maybe that's the problem; not being in the center. Hmm...

Rain

Ruins plans, or makes a day. Haven't figured out which, yet.

Trying to have a fallback in case plans fall through. I had been considering some outdoor activities, but rain showers are still coming through. Ran out and did some equipment testing when there was a gap in the wetness.

Spring 2010

It's raining. I guess we should count our blessings. Just came out of a high-wind stretch, with red-flag fire warnings; the rain should help, just a little.

Now, if only our elected officials (Executive, Legislative, School Board) can get it together...

Always nice to shoot after it rains. The air is clean, and there is a lot of stuff to reflect light.

Drops are fun.

It is 6AM, local. Just got back from kicking off some maintenance stuff at work.

It is raining, there is a thunderstorm just offshore, and I am tired. Hope this is not a portent of things this year.

It was raining...

...a lot. Would have been nice to think of it as "melted snow," until the power outage on the 26th, lasting 10 hours for some, still out for others. Allegedly caused by a lightning strike at one of the power plants, but that is conjecture at this time. The circuits breakers popped like they are supposed to, protecting the system from further potential damage, saving us customers time and money.

All kinds of "suggestions" from people. I would hazard to guess that, when the price tag is presented for possible solutions (and it will cost), the answer will be "ne'mind." ("never mind", as in "that's okay").

I think that, for the most part, the residents of this island (O'ahu, Hawaii) handled the situation pretty well. There will always be the "10%"; idiots will always be idiots.

At least it doesn't snow here...
